Forrest Park & Miller Park
Driving down Morris you’ll pass what used to be the area’s most popular Route 66 tourist camp, today’s Forrest Park. In the early 1920s, travelers would use this location as a rest area and campground. Today it is a city park populated with mature oak and hickory trees, a disc golf course, a playground, and multiple shelters. At the intersection of Morris and Tanner you’ll see Bloomington’s Route 66 photo op. The Parkview Inn at the corner of Morris and Wood St. is a good place to stop if you are hungry. Otherwise, turn right. Soon you will approach the entrance to Miller Park.
Established in 1889, Miller Park has been a gathering place since the early days of the Mother Road. There’s so much to see here, including the historic pavilion, war memorials, a playground with an interactive water feature, the lake, and walking trails. The park also includes the Association of Zoos and Aquariums accredited Miller Park Zoo, the only zoo located directly on Route 66!
