Jesse Fell/Greenwood Site

Today, off campus housing for Illinois State University students occupies much of the Jesse Fell estate. Jesse Fell's two-story, Italianate-style home originally occupied the corner of Broadway Avenue and Vernon Street. Built in 1856, the home was part of a fifteen-acre estate officially known as “Greenwood,” but called “Fell Park” by locals. In 1890, the Fell home was moved to 502 S. Fell Ave., and in the mid-1910s the cupola and porch were removed. Sadly the home fell to the wrecking ball in 1980.
