Major's Hall Site

Southwest corner of East and Front Streets

Today, the Abraham Lincoln Parking Deck occupies the site of Major's Hall. Built in the early 1850s by William T. Major, Lincoln delivered his so-called "Lost Speech" on the third floor. That floor was lost to fire in 1872, and in the late 1950s, the remaining two stories we razed as part of an urban renewal plan for the south end of downtown Bloomington.

In 2025 a 45-ft mural depicting Lincoln’s lost speech was painted on the east-facing wall of the building across the street.
